Family History Research
There is more to genealogy than just Name, Birth, Marriage and Death. Think of your family history more like a book, think about what your ancestors where doing at the time what the conditions at the time were like, where were they working? Did they have their own business ?.
Many records such as work records and business directories can be researched and you can add substance to your research, suddenly your family History has become more interesting.
Census
When you read a census return, you normally just look at the houshold with you relitives in, try and look who is livving next door, as families did not move great distances then you may find Uncles Aunts could be live a couple of doors away or you may find your Great Grandfather was living next to your Great Grandmother before they were married.
Birth Certificates
Birth Certificates are the best form of indentifcation available to us, they give the childs First and last name and in most cases the middlename, the fathers name and is occupation, the mothers name plus her madian name. The place of birth is also shown.
Married Certificates
Marriage certificates are a great source of information along with the two names getting married, the certficates has the father names of the married couple. You should also look at the witnessess these can often be Brother/Sisters or Aunts/Uncles.
Death Certficates
These can tell you how, where and why death occuried. This will also give you the infomant which could be a partner, son/daughter or aunt/uncle. |
